smarterfox-logoRecently I was looking to find something new and fresh to add to my Firefox browser. I’ve been using the same old add-ons for quite some time and thought I needed to see what else was out there. I stumbled across an add-on that I’ve seen many times before but never really took the time to check it out and see what it really had to offer. I must say after getting to know it I kinda wonder why I didn’t look at it sooner. I’m talking about FastestFox.

FastestFox helps make common tasks on the web easier and faster by integrating shortcut tools that are streamlined with your bookmarks and the most popularly used websites such as Google and Wikipedia. There are few key features to FastestFox but they are features well worth having. The first feature anyone can’t help but notice is the pop up bubble that appears whenever text on a web page is highlighted. The bubble offers a convenient way to search for something using popular sites like Google, Wikipedia, and YouTube. This bubble can go a long way especially if you find something you want more information about or say you’d like to find a video about something in particular. All you have to do is highlight the desired keywords and click the appropriate link in the bubble. The bubble takes you to a new page with the results from your selection allowing you to maintain the page your on while locating your desired information. If you don’t have FastestFox you’ll still notice this feature as it has been integrated with this site through the use of its widget.

One of the other features I found to be outstanding is the bookmark quick launch (aka qLauncher). qLauncher is a way for you to access some of the most accessed websites in you bookmarks very quickly. It is a very similar tool to the quick launch section of your Windows taskbar which provides faster access to some of you most used applications. To use qLauncher all you need to do is add the desired websites into the included bookmark directory. When these sites are added, simultaneously pressing Ctrl+Space will pop up a different kind of bubble. This new bubble has all of your desired bookmarks, clicking one will open in a new tab or window the requested website. This is by far a faster way of accessing the sites you use most. Now thinking about this some people might say “Why use this when I can just place those same sites on my bookmarks toolbar?” Anyone ever see what happens when you have a boat load of toolbars? Yeah, you can barely see any site your visiting because most of it is taken up by them. So by utilizing a Keyboard Shortcut you have just eliminated a needless toolbar and freed up some space on your monitor. Most of the time I tend to have my hands near my keyboard making this much quicker for me. This pop up bubble also gives you another way of searching for something on your frequently used sites.

One other major function of this add on is its ability to provide search results based off of the text typed into the address bar. This is a very nice feature because now you’re not required to go to Google or Wikipedia to see your results but rather see them straight from your address bar improving your web surfing experience.

Several other features of FastestFox include the ability to auto-copy text upon selection or auto-paste upon middle- or right-click. FastestFox can even create hyperlinks out of plain-text url’s which can be extremely convenient on sites in which users cannot post links or links are converted to plain-text. FastestFox even offers amazing integration with Wikipedia, adding a related articles section to the sidebar. This is a nice feature since many of their articles offer links throughout to related pages, when this places them in easy to find location. Also since FasterFox’s qLauncher adds a folder to your bookmarks it can be backed up the same way any others would be if you use something like Xmarks.

At first glance many of these features may not seem necessary, in time, however, they will become second nature and you’ll wonder how lived without them. In a world where time is of the essence and no one wants to waste time anything that can increase productivity is something to be sought after. I highly recommend to anyone they check out FastestFox.

thanks sun tattoo. I actually designed the site myself. I'm not very good at designs and I thought it was rather simple for now as I've had trouble coming up with something better. Also sts if you'd like to post articles to the site, send me an email with an article or two to the email on my feedback page and if I like them then I would see no reason for you to post.
